In the deep south Italian, c 'it is a handful of dirt, surrounded by the Mediterranean waters and kissed Favonio: his name is Favignana, a beautiful island in the archipelago of Egadi custodian of a centuries-old tradition of fishing and where the lives of its inhabitants-fishermen from always marked by the rhythms of the sea. Fishing for tuna and its processing accounted for over 500 years the main source of livelihood of its inhabitants, and have influenced the rhythms with his daily life. The center of this collective activity was the beginning of the nineteenth century the Florio factory that is why, little by little, gained a central place in the life of the island and became well, a key part of its long history.

in the period from May to June on the island it takes place after a preparation that lasts all year, what is called "the Slaughter". For a tourist who had visited the Egadi in years past might have considered the killing a fishing barbaric practice or a mere folkloric events now emptied of meaning. In reality behind this practice, now almost extinct today, they are hiding the strong historical content, social and cultural rights not just economic. The tuna fishery represents the primitive man's struggle for survival, a struggle that has nothing spectacular or folklore, but that is the hard work of men to the rhythm of the songs - the so-called cialome - move in unison with the sole strength of their arms, for survival.

And 'why the Viareggino photographer expresses in the shots on display, a report on what were the historical sites of the chain of tuna processing and their old fishermen, where the faces you see the signs of the sea, salt, sun and hard work.
