In the deep south Italian, c 'it is a handful of dirt, surrounded by the Mediterranean waters and kissed Favonio: his name is Favignana, a beautiful island in the archipelago of Egadi custodian of a centuries-old tradition of fishing and where the lives of its inhabitants-fishermen from always marked by the rhythms of the sea. The center of this collective activity was the beginning of the nineteenth century the Florio factory that is why, little by little, gained a central place in the life of the island and became well, a key part of its long history.

in the period from May to June on the island it takes place after a preparation that lasts all year, what is called "the Slaughter". For a tourist who had visited the Egadi in years past might have considered the killing a fishing barbaric practice or a mere folkloric events now emptied of meaning.
