The nineteenth century opened the world in Borgiotti and Picenes collections
A story in paintings of a 'single combat', never officially declared yet lived with passion, between two great intellectuals and experts of art in Milan on Via Manzoni in the aftermath of World War II, Enrico Piceni (1901- 1986) and Mario Borgiotti (1906-1977). And '' The time to Signorini and De Nittis. The nineteenth century opened the world in Borgiotti collections and Piceni ', shows from July 2 to 26 February to Matteucci Foundation for Modern Art in Viareggio, that compares two passions, that of Piceni for' Italian of Paris' and the of Borgiotti for macchiaioli. All through the paintings of De Nittis, Boldini Zandomeneghi and joined to works by Signorini, Lega and other protagonists of the Macchia, many of which remain 'private' for decades, invisible and not granted to any exhibition and museum. Alongside the works of the two collections a small group of other works of comparison, always among the top choices of the Ecole Italienne and Macchiaioli.
Piceni and Borgiotti had mansions and collections within walking distance. Both frequented the beautiful world of the culture of the time. The first, Piceni, was in charge of Medusa and Thrillers by Arnoldo Mondadori, was a translator of Dickens and Bronte, a friend of Montale and Vergani. And most passionate admirer of the 'Italian of Paris', ie De Nittis, Boldini and Zandomeneghi. The second, from Livorno birth and spirit, he arrived in Milan after 'size' to the RCMP of Florence, a friend of Papini, Cecchi and Fluffy. Musician and violinist. But above all love of 'his' macchiaioli.
The exhibition project by Giuliano Matteucci, thanks to the collaboration with Enrico Piceni Foundation and the City of Viareggio, has managed to bring together the personal collections of the two protagonists, the first merged into the equity of the Piceni Foundation, the second still in the availability of Borgiotti family
